  • Andrew Ruth, UES Writer

Majors: Economics, Math
Activities: UES, FSG, Intramurals
A little about myself: I’m a sophomore economics major from Minnesota.  I have a very strong interest in economics in general and, more specifically, its applications to the financial industry.  I joined the UES writing staff for a few reasons. Many times I find myself reading articles in the Economist or other publications and want to express my views on the issues.  In addition, I hope to provide people with useful information as well as expanding my knowledge of economics through researching articles and discussion on the UES blog.

  • Ash Jaidev, UES Editor

I’m a sophomore majoring in Economics and History, and I’m from New York. I’m really interested in economics, particularly macroeconomics, as well as finance and the markets. I write for North by Northwestern as well. As a writer for UES I hope to share my views on current events and its implications for economics and the financial world. I also want to be a part of greater economics discussions here at Northwestern.

  • Binoy Bhansali, UES Writer

I’m majoring in Psychology and Economics and hope to completely a Business Institutions Minor as well.  I’m in the acapella group Asterik and have been singing all of my life.  I play club tennis and am on the Communications Board for Sigma Phi Epsilon.  I’m in UES to provide new incoming economics majors a resource to guide them academically as well as getting them to think about their prospective careers with the degree.

Majors: Journalism (Medill) and Math (Weinberg) double major
Activities: working for The Daily Northwestern, North by Northwestern, working for Phonathon, going to campus shows and exhibitions, dressing up every morning (and imagine myself being a fashionista along the way, lol …);
Hobbies: Watching movies, going to museums and art galleries, attending UES meetings (lol…), working for business departments at media organizations.
Favorite places in Chicago: The Art Institute of Chicago, The Magnificent Mile, CTA Red Line (Oh my god so many of those journalism projects would be IMPOSSIBLE without this crucial transit line), The University of Chicago (Don’t hate me–they have beautiful campus for sure!)
Why I am in UES: I first learned about UES from a notice from Professor Dorina Rasmussen about becoming a niche writer for UES Newsletter. Then I found great development opportunities in devoting to UES and decided to contribute what I have to enhance the media part of the Society.

Steven Chen, UES Writer
Majors: MMSS, Economics, Math
Activities: UES, NBN, TASC, Club Tennis
I’m a sophomore in WCAS.  I’m in UES because I love economics and I want to write about it.  I also want to show people that there is a lot more to economics than just finance.  After all, economics is the science of making decisions, not the science of making money… it just happens that making decisions is good for making money.
